0SHARESShareTweetClyde Blundell Obituary, Death Cause – We regret to inform you of the passing of Clyde Andrew Blundell on July 13, 2023. He was a loving husband, father, and grandpa. Clyde, a native and lifetime resident of Potter Valley, California, went away in his sleep at home on April 15, 2019, at the age of 69. Clyde Blundell was born in Ukiah, California to Andrew “Rusty” Blundell and Helen Blundell. In 1857, Clyde’s ancestors were among the first settlers in Potter Valley. Clyde was therefore the sixth generation of his family to live in the valley. After finishing elementary and secondary school in the area, Clyde continued his education at College of the Redwoods, where he studied diesel mechanics.
Clyde was a multitalented guy who had developed his skills over the course of many years. As a child, he helped run his father’s construction business and his uncle Jim Eddie’s cattle ranch. After graduating from diesel mechanic school, he worked as a millwright in the local timber business for many companies, including Louisiana Pacific, Keene Pallet Mill, and, lastly, the Masonite mill in Ukiah. When Clyde started working for Caltrans in 1999, he opened a new chapter in his life. He first worked in the Willits Maintenance Yard as an operator of maintenance equipment. When Clyde was given the chance to transfer to the Caltrans Construction division, he took it and quickly rose through the ranks to Lead Worker.
The day job was never as important to Clyde as his passion for farming and ranching. Clyde used the knowledge he gained as a kid to establish his own herd of cattle on the family property. After inheriting his grandmother’s property in 2004, he raised a herd and bought his own haymaking machinery to tend to it. Clyde also found great satisfaction in taking on the responsibility of restoring and maintaining the ranch’s secondhand tractors and other heavy equipment. Everyone knew how much he enjoyed tinkering around in his workshop. Clyde could almost always be seen at the store during his last years. Clyde was one-of-a-kind and commanded attention everywhere he went.
