Chick-fil-A, one of America’s popular fast food joints In North Carolina, has surprisingly advertised for “volunteers” to man the drive-through in exchange for chicken.

“We are looking for volunteers for our new Drive Thru Express!” the store in Hendersonville, N.C., wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday that has since been deleted. “Earn 5 free entrees per shift (1 hr) worked. Message us for details.”

The eatery is a fast-food powerhouse and a top choice for chicken sandwiches in America.

Although it generates annual sales in the billions of dollars, some fans were taken aback by the novel strategy.

The store has come under heavy fire online for appearing to ignore federal law that requires employees to be paid for all hours they work.

According to them the “volunteer-based opportunity” was intended for people who “think it’s a good fit for them”.

Commenting on this development in a Facebook post they wrote, “We’ve had multiple people sign up and enjoy doing and have done it multiple times. People who sign up for this chose it voluntarily.”
