It's a big day at Hubbard Elementary School in Kuna as they unveil their new Robotics Explorer LEGO Lab.

"Our kids at our school are kindergarten through third grade, so they are very young, so it's really important to spark an early interest for them in STEM," explains Hubbard Elementary Librarian Lisa Gamboa. "Because that is what the future is!"

This lab was made possible by a grant from Meta and in collaboration with Idaho First Robotics.

To build the lab, administrators transformed two classroom spaces into an innovative learning environment for all!

A brainchild of Hubbard Librarian Lisa Gamboa.

"I was researching about elementary school libraries, and I came across that a lot of librarians were also talking about digital literacy, not just reading literacy," Gamboa explains. "So that's how library ties into STEM because it's a different kind of literacy. Being able to code and do those sorts of things is extremely important for the next generation, and it kind of grew from there. It kind of started as a small corner and grew to this."

The lab is open to all students and is equipped with robotics kits and a spectrum of STEM and LEGO resources, allowing students to get hands-on learning experiences to enhance skills in coding, problem-solving, collaboration and more.

Student Bennett Konzek was kind enough to show off his LEGO model, complete with a power station, solar panels and the sun.

"It shows how energy is made and shows the symbol of the company," Konzek explains.

In addition to the LEGO Explore Club, this LEGO maker lab will help teach STEM classes to more than 200 students, something these students are excited to get their hands on.

We are so thankful for our leaders and educators across the Treasure Valley, and we want to recognize them!
