One of the high school cheerleaders, Payton Washington attempted to enter the wrong vehicle at a parking lot outside Austin, Texas, resulting in the shooting of two other cheerleaders.
Payton Washington, who is an 18-year-old athlete, was gravely hurt and is currently receiving medical treatment. The other victim was attended to on the spot. The incident took place on Tuesday at 00:15 local time (05:15 GMT), when many shots were fired according to reports.
Later, Pedro Tello Rodriguez Jr., a 25-year-old male, was accused of lethal conduct by the police. When weapons are used carelessly and someone’s life is put in danger, that charge is most frequently brought. It is a third-degree felony in this case, which carries a maximum jail sentence of ten years.
Elgin, which is about 25 miles east of Austin, is where the shooting took place in front of a grocery store. The Woodlands Elite Cheer Company frequently picks up its members in the parking lot.
Heather Roth, a cheerleader, claimed she accidentally chose the wrong car as she got out of her friend’s car to get into her own. She went back to her friend’s car since there was a man in the passenger seat.
She said that; “I see the guy get out of the passenger door. And I rolled my window down, and I was trying to apologize to him… and he just threw his hands up and he pulled out a gun and he just starting shooting at all of us,”
A gunshot slightly touched Ms. Roth, but she wasn’t seriously hurt. Ms. Washington also sustained an injury to her pancreas, diaphragm, and spleen, according to the owner of the cheering team.
Later, the girl’s father whose name is Keylon Washington, informed NBC News that she was being treated in a hospital and was in a stable but serious condition.
After tracking down the suspect’s license plate number, he was taken into custody. According to court filings, the shooting was also seen by the manager of a convenience shop.
